Mt Pisgah Old Communication Shack

Mt Pisgah takes it name from the biblical reference as a Mt. with a view of the promised land. As you can see the quality of the light is exceptional and the photo was taken with a tripod to allow for an HDR effect.

Wild Blue Lupin - Images by Chuck van Rens
The Wild Blue Lupin is a endangered species that is found in Oak Savannah regions. Oak Savannah regions are rare in themselves. These plants were found in the Oak Opening Region of Northwestern Ohio. The region, 130 square miles, is called by the Nature Conservatory, "One of American Last Great Places." Blue Lupin is a food source for the rare Blue Kramer Butterfly. The region is a photographer's delight.

The Maumee river at Side Cut Metro Park in Maunee, OH is a excellent destination for Egret and Heron birding. It is not uncommon to see eagle and other raptors as well migrating the water channels on their passage north and south. Great photography can be had early morning as the fog and mist raise form the water.

Lodging at Paradise

The lodge at Paradise is one of the very best in the National Parks.  We took the evening to refresh and plan the nest day's outing. The golden hour light on both ends of the days at this altitude is special. If Mt. Rainer is majestic from Seattle it is positively mystical up close.

Ridges, Slopes and Less Travelled paths

Being lost in ridges, meadows and slopes of Mt. Rainier is one of the results of wandering chasing the morning light for photogaphy's sake. Once you find a path you have to figure out which way to go. I checked my water bottle which was half full and guessed I would go to the left. I met a blond women on one of the ridges lamenting a lost love and scattering his ashes to the wind.  Would I take a picture she asked. What a place.  Never a dull moment.
